One of the fastest growing areas in Hamilton County, this suburb offers community amenities like a network of walking paths and a suburban living environment that is just minutes from Bradley County. Southern Adventist University is located in Collegedale. One of America’s most exclusive golf courses, The Honors, is located in the area.
In the early 20th century Collegedale was founded as the site of a college and a community where students and citizens could enjoy the area framed by beautiful mountains and abundant in wildlife and flora.
As the community transitioned into a thriving suburb of Chattanooga, the residents of Collegedale decided they wanted a say in the laws of their community. Collegedale was duly incorporated under the city manager form of government in 1968.
Over the next few years, the city established its infrastructure and in 1992 the government moved its headquarters to the new city office building on Swinyar Drive.
Today, Collegedale is a city of approximately 6,500 residents. Collegedale is 15 minutes from Chattanooga, and less than two hours from Atlanta, Nashville, and Knoxville. Citizens continue to enjoy the many opportunities for recreation the valley provides, such as the summer softball program.
Residents of Collegedale can send their children to their choice of nearby Hamilton County schools or several private schools.
